Is Elden Ring hard because of bosses, or because it lets players get lost?
People talk about Elden Ring difficulty like it is only about boss fights, but honestly the open world itself can be brutal. You can walk into zones way too early, miss upgrades, ignore mechanics, or fight enemies you are not ready for.
Is Elden Ring’s real difficulty the bosses, the freedom, or the lack of hand-holding?
Does getting lost make the game better, or just more confusing for new players?

Elden Ring is hard because it gives you freedom without babysitting you. Bosses are brutal, sure, but a lot of new players suffer because they walk into the wrong place, miss upgrades, ignore Vigor, or fight like every enemy must be beaten right now.
The best beginner fix is simple:
- Level Vigor early
- Upgrade your weapon often
- Leave fights that feel impossible
- Use spirit ashes if you want
- Explore caves and smaller bosses
- Don’t treat every death like failure
Getting lost is part of the game’s design. The trick is learning when “hard” means “learn the fight” and when it means “bro, come back later.” Elden Ring is not asking you to win every wall with your forehead. Sometimes the correct play is to leave, get stronger, and return like a menace.
