Is Red Dead Redemption 2 slow on purpose, and is that why it feels so real?

RDR2 can feel slow compared to most modern games. Animations take time, travel is long, looting is detailed, and the game does not rush you from one action scene to another.

Is that slow pace actually part of why the world feels so alive?

Or does it make the game harder to enjoy for players who want faster gameplay?

RDR2 is slow on purpose. The animations, looting, horse travel, camp interactions, and long rides are all built to make you feel like you live in the world instead of speedrunning a content checklist.

If you play it like a fast action game, it can feel heavy. If you play it like an immersive western sim, it hits different.

Best way to enjoy it:

  • Don’t fast travel everywhere
  • Hunt and camp sometimes
  • Talk to gang members
  • Let random events breathe
  • Use first-person or cinematic camera occasionally
  • Stop treating every ride as dead time

The slow pace is not for everyone, but it is the reason the world feels believable. Rockstar traded speed for weight. That trade makes some players bored, but for others it makes the game unforgettable.
