Is farming skill more important than fighting skill in Dota 2?
Some players look mechanically average in fights but still win because their farm, map movement, and item timings are crazy efficient. Meanwhile, some players fight a lot, get flashy kills, but still lose because they fall behind in net worth.
So how important is farming compared to teamfighting in Dota 2?
Can good farming carry bad mechanics, or does it only work if you also understand when to fight?

Farming is not more important than fighting by itself. Farming is important because it decides what kind of fights you are allowed to take. A carry with Battle Fury/BKB timing is playing a different game from the same carry showing up broke with half an item.
Good farming gives you:
- Faster item timings
- Better map pressure
- Safer comeback paths
- Stronger objective control
- Less need for coin-flip fights
But AFK farming is also grief if your team needs one spell from you to win a fight. The real skill is farming while still reading the map.
A simple rule: if you are farming, ask “what objective or item timing am I farming toward?” If the answer is nothing, you are probably just hiding from the game. Efficient farm is good. Fear farming is not.
